Explore Pocitos´ rich history through its architecture!

This walking tour is a collaboration between the tour "Viví el barrio Pocitos" and Uruguay Auténtico.

Today, Pocitos is one of the most popular residential neighborhoods of Montevideo: it has its own beach, is very well connected with public transportation, there are many good private schools in the area and all other important services are available.

However, many visitors to Montevideo often just see the tall appartment houses (mostly from the 80s and 90s) along the Rambla, the water front promenade, and don´ t necessarily find Pocitos that intriguing for further explorations.

But Pocitos has a very interesting history to look back to: it originated as a fancy beach resort at the end of the 19th century for the locals living in the historic center of Montevideo and even attracted wealthy Argentineans who loved to spend their summers in Pocitos. Basically, Pocitos was the first ¨Punta del Este¨.

And there still are remnant from this glorious time left to explore!

This 1.5h walking tour was created by Uruguayan architect María Elina Monza together with an associate and lets you experience Pocitos´ history through its architecture: You`ll see big mansions, a french-style castle and charming family homes built by the construction company ¨Bello & Reboratí¨.

Come on our tour and afterwards you´ll see Pocitos with diffrent eyes!
